Pluses and Wishes

This activity is an informal way for students to give feedback to teachers about their learning at the end of a unit or series of lessons.

Process

  1. Inform the class you will be requesting the students to name “pluses”, things that supported their learning or activities they appreciated, and “wishes”, things they wish the group had done more, less, or differently.
  2. Use two flip charts or boards.  Make a T-Bar putting pluses at the top left and wishes at the top right.
  3. Ask for two volunteer recorders.
  4. Ask for pluses first.  As each plus is named, the recorders can alternate recording the note.
  5. Ask for wishes.  As each wish is named, the recorders can alternate recording the note.

Variations

Instead of doing this verbally, students can write their pluses and wishes on sticky notes (one plus or wish per sticky note) and place them on the relevant chart (as they leave the room).  This makes the feedback anonymous and allows the teacher to categorize the feedback.
